Most of us are quietly exhausted from holding it all together. We’ve learned to keep going, to stay capable, to rise above the hard things and manage them beautifully from the neck up. These are the ways we’ve kept ourselves safe, and once upon a time, they were necessary. The trouble is that the strategies that once protected us, slowly cut us off from feeling ourselves and meeting life fully, and over time, tend to show up as depletion, chronic health struggles, and a gut sense that something’s missing.

Over two days, we’ll slow down enough together to get to know how we often avoid overwhelm, overriding or disconnecting, and learn the resources to meet it. Day one is about awareness and authenticity: recognizing your own particular bypass patterns, learning the fundamentals of Somatic Experiencing so you can track sensation and build the capacity to feel rather than flee, and discovering how cultural masks and shadow live in the body as posture, tension, and holding. You’ll practice finding your body’s authentic “yes” and “no” instead of overriding your own boundaries to belong.

Day two turns toward compassion, somatic freedom, and aliveness. We’ll look more closely at spiritual bypassing, “love and light,” the numbness that can masquerade as peace, and reclaim the anger, grief, and full emotional range that lies underneath. You’ll explore your window of tolerance, work with Jaya’s L.I.F.T. Method, and invite the natural world help your system to settle. We’ll explore how adversity can become a doorway to real post-traumatic growth, supported by ancestral wisdom, and connection with our own very real humanity. You’ll weave all the somatic tools that resonate into a personal resilience kit that you can take home with you to use daily.

This workshop is for anyone who is ready to touch into the strategies that we use to avoid overwhelm, and learn how to integrate them, so that we can begin to embody our authentic, alive Self. You’ll leave with the capacity to feel your body rather than override it, practical somatic tools for regulating your nervous system and emotions, including co-regulation with others, steadier relational boundaries, a felt sense of how growth can rise from life’s challenges, and your own personal kit for everyday life. No trauma background or theoretical knowledge of somatics necessary.

Who This Training Is For

  • Anyone quietly exhausted from holding it all together. You're capable and managing, yet underneath it there's a tiredness that feels relentless. The costs of over-doing, over-giving or over-perfecting are too great, and you're curious about transforming them.
  • People who've done a lot of inner work and still feel stuck. You understand your story and have maybe done plenty of therapy, yet your body is still in overdrive, and you're ready to finally meet it.
  • The spiritually seasoned who sense they've been bypassing. You love the practices, and some part of you suspects that you are sometimes floating above harder feelings and/or overwhelm. You want to include all parts you and return to your own humanity as sacred.
  • Practitioners and helpers who want to meet their own shadow and bypass patterns to support themselves better, and by proxy, the people they hold.
  • The simply curious who want to deepen their self-knowledge and feel more somatically alive.
  • No trauma background, theoretical somatics background necessary. If you want to feel more like yourself, you are welcome.

Meet Your Teacher

Jaya Hollohan MA, SEP

Jaya Hollohan, MA, is a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner and Nervous System Specialist with eighteen years of practice and more than 10,000 sessions. After leaving work in poverty reduction with the Canadian federal government, she spent a decade studying energy therapies before an unexpected turn shaped everything: the birth of a son who needed years of medical care. Helping him through his early traumas led her to train directly with Dr. Peter Levine, the founder of Somatic Experiencing, and what began as a mother’s love became her life’s work.

That path gave rise to the School of Sacred Somatics, where she guides people out of survival mode and back into the fullness of who they are. Her work lives at the meeting point of nervous system science, the body’s own capacity to heal, and the grace that lies beyond any wound. She works with those who have tried everything and are ready to find the missing pieces.

Jaya believes the body is not a problem to be solved, but a sacred vessel waiting for us to come home to it.

What Students Say

““Jaya, thank you so much for this beautiful retreat. As I look back, I am struck with so much healing and knowledge, I sit on the plane now with my back feeling strong and this existential pain I carried dissipating. Thank you for believing that I can heal. That belief alone really brings me to tears. The connection I felt last week re-installed a sense of magic in the world that was lost on me – this child like wonder of not knowing what one can expect behind every corner."”

~ Graham, USA

“"This retreat was a beautiful experience because I am embodying the afterglow of this somatic work. The next day after the retreat, integration started: I noticed my voice—my new internal ally—now felt seen, held, and healed. This somatic retreat didn’t just “relax” me for a few days. It changed my internal landscape. My behavior shifted, which is evidence that my nervous system became regulated.”

~ Deborah, Canada

“"It is hard describe how transformative this Retreat was for me. I have been to dozens of yoga retreats but none have altered me so deeply. The combination of expertise in both Heather’ s Ayurvedic yoga practices and Jaya Somatic healing sessions are a healing experience everyone can benefit from. I’ll be returning. And they have deeply influenced my own medical practice too. I now believe that their approach is crucial to transforming our treatments of trauma & it’s deep psychological scars."”

~ Molly, Australia

“"Jaya is one of the few healing practitioners that I trust implicitly. I am so grateful to have come across her work and participate in her Somatic Retreats. I have added more tools to my somatic practice toolbox and am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to devote an entire weekend to this work. Thank you for your grace."”

~ Tara, Canada

““Jaya, what a powerful energy you hold. My back pain that has been with me for decades is gone. Thank you for showing me the link between mind and body. The Somatic training on the retreat taught me so much about mind body awareness. The examples and practical training was perfect. The way you treated and released the trauma I experienced at birth has shifted me to another level. Your ability to hold space and intuit what needs to be addressed is very strong. You are confident, well informed, yet also calm and humble. Thank you so much!””

~ Jan, South Africa

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this therapy? Will I have to relive or share my trauma?

No. This is an experiential and educational workshop, not group therapy. You’ll learn to work with your own patterns and sensations, but you’re never asked to disclose your story or dredge up past traumas. The whole approach is about building the capacity to feel safely at your own pace. If you’re in active trauma treatment, we’d encourage you to stay connected to your therapist alongside the weekend or request a session from Jaya post-workshop.

What is "somatic shadow work"? It sounds intense.

The “shadow” is a term from the psychologist Carl Jung, who used it for the parts of ourselves we’ve learned to hide, disown, or push out of sight, not because they’re bad, but because somewhere along the way they felt unwelcome. Shadow work is a long-trusted practice of turning toward those exiled parts with awareness and compassion, so they can be reintegrated rather than left to run us from the dark. What makes this “somatic” is that we meet the shadow through the body, sensation, posture, tension, like famous Jungian Analyst Marion Woodman rather than only analyzing it in the mind, because these parts live in us physically, not just as ideas. In practice it’s gentler than it sounds: slowing down, noticing what’s here, and meeting it with kindness instead of judgment.

Do I need a trauma background or any experience with somatics?

None at all. No trauma history, no somatic training, and no particular beliefs are required. The two days are built to meet beginners and seasoned practitioners alike, because the work meets your nervous system where it is, not where we think it should be.

I'm quite spiritual. Will this challenge my practices?

It won’t ask you to abandon anything you love. We do look honestly at spiritual bypassing, partly in relationship to Robert Augustus Master PhD’s book, “Spiritual Bypassing,” but the invitation is to include more, not believe in less. Most people find it deepens their spirituality by grounding it into their body. Jaya herself has done decades of Zen Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, and Christian Mysticism related practices. When Jaya says “sacred,” she simply means connection to something larger than ourselves, with no particular belief attached.

What if I get overwhelmed or emotional during the weekend?

That’s welcome and held with care. The days are paced to keep your system in a workable range (window of tolerance), with breaks, solo time in nature, and permission to rest, step back, or simply observe any practice. Learning to notice “this is too much” and honor it is part of what we’re building together, not a sign that something’s gone wrong.

Will I leave with something practical, or just stirred up?

Something practical. The weekend is designed to resource you, not just open up what’s been lying underneath. You’ll leave with your own personal resilience kit, including somatic tools for regulating your nervous system and emotions that you can use in daily life, plus steadier boundaries and a felt sense of how growth can arise from the challenges and body sensations that we ready ourselves to feel and meet.
