The science of energy sounds abstract until Michael makes it concrete, breaking it down this week.
The language around energy is freely used and many of us are not familiar with what energy actually is.
Beyond talking about the basic science of energy, Michael drops a few facts related to how energy and emotions in the body are the source of any allergies, like foods, or environmental elements that cause us to sneeze, sniff, and snot.
Other episodes related to energy:
Episode #95: What is Energy with Michael and Byron
Episode #97: The Energetic Field with Cat Kabira
The IN Movement Podcast was formerly the Going Pro Yoga Podcast — and before that, the Yoga Teacher Evolution Podcast and the Rat Race Rebellion Podcast. Same mission, evolved name.

Hey there, Before we get started on this week's episode, I would love to ask for your support by reviewing this podcast. We want to share yoga with as many people as possible and this free resource. This podcast is one of the ways that we can do that. And the best way that you can help support us is by giving us a review.
So if you go to Apple Podcasts or Spotify or whatever podcast platform you use, Scroll down until you find that star review and then give us some love. Thank you so much, and let's get started with this week's episode. Every human body, you and me and anyone else that you know is made-up of about 50 trillion cells, 50 trillion cells.
It's a lot of cells. And every cell has a voltage of electricity or energy, and that voltage of electricity in every cell is approximately 1.4 volts. And to give you a perspective, a double A battery has I think 1.5 volts okay.
Meaning you have about if you, you know multiply 50 trillion cells times 1.4 volts, you have about 700 trillion volts of electricity and energy running through your body right now. Welcome to the Going Pro Yoga podcast. If you love yoga as much as I do then this podcast is for you.
We talk all things yoga related for teachers in order to supplement and complement and even support after a 200 hour yoga teacher training. Or if you've never done a training before, this podcast is all about just learning more about yoga in an authentic way. Together with Paul Teodo and Byron Demarsay, we put together this podcast to provide you with a free resource to learn more about yoga.
Whether you want to share yoga or teach yoga or just practice yoga, this podcast is talking all things yoga related. And we're trying to talk from the teacher's perspective and also the students' perspective to make sure we get a full 360 degree angle on what yoga is all about and how it's evolved in the modern world. Welcome to our podcast.
Hey there, and welcome back to the Going Pro Yoga Podcast. I am excited today to talk to you about something else that is new. Maybe not for you, but it's new for me to talk about in the sense that I've never talked about it on a podcast before, even though we've talked about energy. We are going to be talking about energy today, but we're going to be talking about it more from the lens of the science perspective.
So if you wanted to, you know, refer to some other conversations in our podcast about energy and, you know, that's something that's interesting to you. We have a couple episodes, episode 95, where Byron and I just discuss energy in a very, you know, simple way.
We don't really go into it too deeply. We just kind of talk about it in the conversational way. And then we also have episode 97 with Kat Kibiro when we talk about the energetic field. Beautiful episode, one of my favorites actually. So I'd highly recommend that.
Otherwise today I'm going to be talking just about energy in the way of just the science perspective, like what is energy? So this is going to be a little bit more for the left brain people out there, right? And I'm going to bring in some of that, right, Brain, of course, because the balance between both is always important. So think about for you, what is energy? You know, we hear the term energy. It's everywhere.
It's here, it's there. I feel the energy in the room. I feel this, you know, the energy wasn't right. Quite my vibe or whatever it might be, right? So just think about that, like, what does all that mean? And if we were to just kind of strip it down to its very deepest core of what exists in this world and that is that everything is energy. Everything is energy, right.
Well, let's kind of backtrack that a little bit more. So forms of energy that we're familiar with that are, you know, our brains can digest a little bit more easily are things like heat, heat energy or light energy, motion energy when we move, electrical energy, you know, when a light turns on.
Or, you know, if you ever unfortunately had to get shocked from maybe an electric fence or sticking your hand in a socket because you were fiddling around with it or whatever might happen and feeling the energy that comes from electricity, chemical energy, which can come in many different forms.
The one that's most familiar to us is food, right? We get chemical energy from food. And then of course, gravitational energy, gravity, the force that pulls us to the Earth all the time. So these are all different forms of energy.
And when we think about all these forms of energy, there's actually one thing that's in common with all of them, and that is that it all has movement. Heat energy is movement. It's a vibration of particles that are moving when it gets, when they move faster, there's more heat, right? Light energy moving from one side to the other side, right? Motion, of course, motion energy is movement, right? Electrical energy, right?
Electrons and then all those stuff basically moving around, moving around. Chemical energy. There's movement happening. Gravitational energy, there's movement happening. So movement, movement is energy. OK, so even when things are still, there is still, even when things are not moving, there is still energy or there's excuse me, there is still motion happening, there is still movement even though we might not be able to see it.
So first, sitting still in a meditation and we're not moving at all. We are still moving okay. Everything is in motion all the time. We just can't see it. So all of these forms of energy, I think it's cool to know that these forms can be either what I call or what is called potential energy, which is stored energy or kinetic energy, energy that's actually being used or working energy, right. So if we were to go to the basic form of what energy is, I'm sure a physics book would say it's
something about the ability to do work or something like that, right. So anytime we're using energy that's working energy, that's kinetic energy. And any time we're, we have energy that's, you know, not being used in that moment, it's stored energy or potential energy. So the language of like, oh, you have so much potential. I see the potential here.
Oh, I see how this, you know, all that language comes from to some level, the energy that exists there already, there's something there already that can eventually turn into something else. So talking a little bit more about energy with regards to this physics perspective is that energy is constant, it's always there and it can never be created or destroyed, right? It only transforms.
For example, the food that you eat contains chemical energy and your body stores this energy as it digests throughout your body. It stores it until you use it as kinetic energy when you do work, or you play, or you practice yoga or whatever it is that you do. And then after that, once we work that energy, we use kinetic energy.
All of a sudden that energy now turns into heat energy, and then that heat energy rises and then goes up into the clouds and then maybe blends with some moisture molecules and whatever else. And then all of a sudden it turns into rain, and the rain energy falls and comes into gravitational energy, and the energy goes down to the earth, and so on and so forth, right?
Many different examples that can come from this. But energy can never be created or destroyed. It only transfers, transforms or moves or changes into something else. So if you think about your body, your body has so much potential energy, it's insane.
It's actually crazy. I think I might have said this on another podcast episode, but I'll say it again today. No, I think I was actually listening to a podcast or maybe I was watching a video, I can't remember, but they were talking about the amount of energy that exists in our legs, our legs, our muscles in our legs. If you look at your legs, you just feel your legs or just like tune into your legs and realizing how much muscle exists in your legs, you know, and this
isn't a point to judge how much muscle you have. It's more so just like to realize the size of the muscles in your legs versus the size of the muscles in your shoulders or your, you know, your forearms or something like that, right?
There's a lot, there's a lot of muscle in your legs for good reason, right? They carry you around all the time. And they were saying that the amount of potential energy that exists in your legs is like astounding. Like, there's so much there.
And this is so one of the reasons why if you've ever heard of superhuman strength, you know where someone is, let's just say trapped under a car or something's happened and someone rushes over and they just, they have this something in them to be able to lift that car, to just lift it off that person, just for a moment, just for them to slide out or whatever it is.
If you haven't heard of this before or you know, this is a thing that has happened, right? And that's because of the amount of energy that exists, the potential energy that can be used in those moments when it's absolutely needed.
You know, how do we, you know, get that energy all the time? Like, I don't know, right. But it's more so just realizing the potential energy that already exists inside our body. In this leg muscle example to me was a was one that supports that. It's like, wow, that's so true.
Like, we do have so much energy, right? Think of times where you're just exhausted, tired. You have nothing left in you and you're just like, I'm so tired. But then boom, something happens and you're like you, you know, you wake up. You have to.
You have no choice, right? You just realize that this is so important. You know, maybe something tragic happens, like something to a family member or a friend, and you're just like, you just wake up. You're like, Nope, this is more important.
Boom. All of a sudden you have energy to be able to figure it out, right? Or if you're just in the mode and you're just doing work, or, you know you're in school or you're in a teacher training, you know, you find the energy to just keep going, to just keep going, to just keep going. And then eventually when you stop doing what you're doing, then you're you're tired and your body's like, OK, now I need to recharge, right?
But you have so much potential energy that can keep you going for longer than most of us actually believe. So I think that's really, really interesting to just sit with and reflect on for yourself. And then a couple other things that I think you're interesting relating to energy for the my left brain people out there is let's talk about the OOH, let's talk about this one first. So every human body you in me and anyone else that you know is made-up of about 50 trillion
cells, 50 trillion cells. It's a lot of cells and in case you're not familiar with the word cells, cells is the is our biology. It's the basic or the lowest form of living Organism. Basically it's not even an Organism, but it's a it's part of what makes you your cells.
OK and every cell has a voltage of electricity or energy and that voltage of electricity in every cell is approximately 1.4 volts. And to give you a perspective, a double a battery has, I think 1.5 volts. Okay. Meaning you have about if you, you know, multiply 50 trillion cells times 1.4 volts, you have about 700 trillion volts of electricity and energy running through your body right now. Boom.
Something to reflect on, something to think about the potential energy that exists inside of you already. Very fascinating. So that's just something to sit on, to think about in your own way. You can reject or accept that you can have an opinion on it.
That's great. If you want to share something, I'd love to hear podcast at going proyoga.com. Otherwise, I'm going to keep going and talk a little bit more about the law of vibration. The law of vibration, which, you know, vibration, frequency, energy, all this stuff kind of is very familiar in the yoga world, at least I hear people talking about a lot, but they never really talked so much about some of the physics aspects.
And you know, I didn't study physics as a major, but I studied physics as well as every other science that exists out there. Or at least most of the ones, maybe not the newer ones, the quantum computer technologies and all these funky things. But anyway, back to the law of vibration. The law of vibration states that everything in the universe is in a constant state of movement, which is basically going back to energy.
Energy is movement, right? So movements are also vibrations In the speed or rate at which something vibrates is called a frequency. So the only difference between one object and another object is the rate of its vibration or frequency, which is very interesting in so many ways.
It basically means that everything has a frequency. And when I think about that, some frequencies don't blend well with other frequencies, the wave patterns just they just don't match very well. So whenever you're like, I just don't jive with that person, you know their frequency, their vibe is just not mine, right? That's an example of how you know there could be a repelling vibration where you, you know, it's not something that attracts you, it's something that
actually moves you away from, right. So vibration frequency is something that affects our ability to connect with different people, to connect with different things. And if I were to go a step into something that's a little bit more relevant for me, maybe for some of you is just related to the frequency of food or objects. And the reason why I say this is because, and I've had a lot of allergies my whole life, a lot of allergies my whole life. And I've actually healed most of
them. I'm sure there's still some there that I have to deal with. But the thing about allergies is it's not exactly what most of us believe allergies to be, right? Comes down to energy, of course. Everything comes down to energy.
But this is going to move a little bit more into, let's say, emotional energy and vibrational energy frequency, all this stuff. And in fact, our philosophy teacher, I should say our philosophy teacher, Vijay Kumar, who is a philosophy teacher who teaches on our trainings.
He's such a beautiful man and I can't wait to get him on the podcast, man, what a day that'll be. He spoke yesterday, actually about allergies and how they basically this that allergies are not something that, you know, our body is just allergic to.
It's more about the emotional state in which our body learned how to deal with that thing or to how to be around that thing. So let me just kind of pack this up a little bit for you. If everything has a frequency, everything has a vibration, its own unique signal, OK? And some signals don't vibe with other signals. Some frequencies don't vibe with other frequencies, you know, for different reasons.
One of those reasons is an emotional state of possibly fear or worry or something that's undesirable. So let's just say for example, and this is probably me, when I was younger, I drank a lot of milk as most of us too, right?
And I'd have cereal a lot. And you know, in cereal there's milk and I was allergic to milk for a long time that I didn't realize it caused inflammation. I would flemmi and I'd have to clear my throat all the time. And you know, it was it was an issue. And as I got older, it became more potent or more stronger of a an allergic reaction or a resistance to it. And even though this isn't a specific example of 1 particular thing that happened or like a
particular trauma, it's more so that whenever I was younger, I did feel quite alone, right? I was a sensitive child that never allowed myself to actually be sensitive, right? So I was going through a lot of emotional discomforts and because milk was something and cereal was something that actually comforted me, I eventually grew an allergy or a resistance to it because my body was feeling this aloneness, this isolation, this, you know, fear of whatever it was, not being
loved, not being wanted, and it associated it to the milk or the frequency of the milk. So my body trying to protect me basically said okay, Anytime we come in contact with this milk, we need to resist this. We need to resist this.
Ultimately, that's what an allergy is, is your body's connection to the frequency of something and that frequency repel or disconnect is related to the emotional state in which you felt or at some point felt when you were in contact with that thing. So not to go too far off topic because this is about energy. To me that's all energy related.
But I just think that's super fascinating to just think about and know about. So you know, being able to change the frequencies can help. You know, we say like you know, change your vibe or you know, if you can shift your frequency, shift your perspective, all this stuff that's basically talking about changing the motion of the way that we think we feel, we behave, the words we speak, you know, the energetic fields, if you listen to the episode with Kat, Kabira, it all comes down
to that vibration and that movement. So I think that's really cool. And if you're anything like me, you probably think that's really cool too. So vibration, vibration, law vibration, everything in the universe, constant motion. And so, yeah, a little bit of science to support the conversation of energy movement, vibration, heat, how it can't be created or destroyed, a bunch of cool little things. So a short little episode just to kind of give you some Nuggets to chew on, to reflect on also
the potential energy that exists inside of you and just, you know, thinking about that and what that might mean to you or what that might change or shift for you. So as always, if you have any questions, concerns, comments, you'll want to be on the podcast.
Send us an e-mail, podcast at goingproyoga.com. We'd love to hear from you. And last thing I'll say is, you know, if you like episodes like this, if you want more episodes like this, you know, first, yeah, you can send us an e-mail, of course, and we'll take that in.

It would really appreciate it. Scroll down on your phone, Spotify, Apple podcast, whatever platform you're using.
Just open up the Going Pro Yoga podcast, which should already be there because you're listening to this right now. And just take the next 15 seconds. You don't even have to write anything. Just give us a star review. That would really, really help us out. And it's not because we have advertisements here. If you're a regular listener, we don't advertise anything here. We share about some of our trainings that we have going on and our platform to help support
yoga teachers, but otherwise we've got no advertisements. We're not advertising anything, even though we get hassed about it all the time. Because I don't wanna have that on my podcast. To me, that's not what I'm chatting for. So support us in the way of.
Giving us a review so that we can help share this free resource with other yogis out there. Right. We just want other people to be able to continue to love yoga, spread yoga and share yoga so that you know, the world can just be a better place.
This is my, this is part of my Dharma is to help the world through yoga. And I would imagine a lot of you, it's a very similar thing. So help us out, send us a review. You know, give us a couple stars. Hopefully five would be great.
Spotify, Apple Podcasts are the most popular apps, but anything else is great as well. Otherwise, hope you have a beautiful day.
